Finally received this one and took some in hand shots. Two very tiny spots on the reverse but they really aren't much to worry about. I may eventually have this re-slabbed to have the fancy 5 attributed to the coin. Let me know your thoughts.

An exceptional example of the type. Full Red that really is fully red is a tough one to find. Yours is a great piece. Congratulations.

Absolutely beautiful 2-cent, Jon! I'm jealous.

As for reslabbing, if it were mine I would leave as is. You have a good grade and the green bean. Plus, unless I'm mistaken, the plain 5 is the scarcer version. If you plan to sell down the road I think your market is going to be someone who specializes in these coins and they can attribute the variety for themselves. That's just my... well you know.

Love the uninterrupted luster.

Given that this is a full red coin are you considering the intercept shield slab covers that John Albanese touts will keep slabs airtight, or air filtered? I don't have top notch red copper coins so I don't worry about slabs that aren't airtight. You seem like their target customer. Don't forget to update us on your use of such products if you elect to use them.

I think Albanese helped develop these and hawks them. I've never used them. Seems like a cheap solution that keeps air out of slabs, but is not exactly airtight.

Also saw that CCF member kanga who is a copper expert started a thread on another site asking about people's experiences with this product and didn't get any responses. Looks like it makes sense for really high value red copper like you have here.

It is wonderful to see a 150 year old copper coin that looks exactly the way it did when it was struck.

It's like a trip back in history.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful coin.

Here are some close ups. Die cracks all over the place. I am particularly curious about the spike coming out of the 2 on the reverse. It looks like a scratch in photos but appears raised under a strong loop. Experts?
