Hello All,

I found this some time ago, but forgot about it. On the left side of the Quarter it looks like it was flattened, but if you flip it over you can the the word "State" or maybe "States" is stamped on the edge. What do you guys think? Worth anything or just cool to keep?

Looks like another coin was pressed against it, and that impressed the letters. I am not sure if or how that could happen at the mint, but I highly suspect its PMD. A partial vise job or struck with a hammer.

Thanks for the response Fuzzy317! I am really new to all of this, so if it is PMD then there really is no value and it is just a cool coin to hang on to? Also...if you don't mind, could you check out my other post? Would love to hear your opinion on it: http://goccf.com/t/314459

The letters are not raised SilverDollar2017.

I am trying to figure out how something like this would happen if it was PMD. You think someone did it to make it look like it was valuable or just for fun? I know it is all a guess, but it's fun hearing everyone's ideas.

If they are not raised, it's PMD.

If it was a mint error, the letters would be raised, from the die striking the coin twice - once correctly, once off center. However, if the letters are not raised, then another coin was placed on top of this one and pressed against this one, which created incuse letters, i.e. PMD.

No, it's still worth face value.

These sort of finds are always good for that. Also a reminder of what may have first piqued your curiosity.
