Damage on the nose, someone poked him! The lower portion of OD look either damaged or MD, machine damaged during the strike(dies bounce). Being close to the rim is normal for 68's, the master dies were old and suffered from Die Deterioration, meaning the metal had flowed outwards, stretching the design elements.

I agree with @crazyb0 on this--a little bit of damage from circulation plus perhaps a little MD, but nothing special with this coin--safe to spend.

The darker color, is a stain to the surface of the coin.
