Hi, I have recently bought a 1923 Australian Florin, and I was just wondering how much this would be worth?

Hi SandyG, From your pictures it would grade around the VF area. VF from Maccas 15th edition gives a value of $300 for VF and $850 for EF. Somewhere towards the lower end of these two values is where I suspect yours lies. You should consult a dealer to confirm as pictures don't always tell the right tales. A nice coin and a welcome addition to anyone's collection. Cheers..

G'day Sandy, welcome to the forum. A bit hard to judge but the coin appears to be in about very fine to very fine condition. McDonald 15th edition gives a value of $300 for VF, Renniks 43rd says $225 for VF. Edit, beat me while typing QldSandy.

Thank you! However I must admit the top photo of the back is not that accurate, the face does not show the moustache detail very well, how would this inflict on the pricing? Sorry but I had to use the top image from a website as it seems to be a lot of trouble trying to take a photo of my actual coin. However the colouring and everything else is the same except for on the back on the guys head the detail is a little blunt.

Oh and also, sorry forgot to add in last post, with the conditions how can you normally tell which one it is under? I have a coins book, but I cant tell the difference between VF and EF, and all the other conditions. Cheers.

That's a very nice coin with a relatively low mintage. I'm still getting a handle on grading AUS coins myself, and can only hope to find a coin like that!

Welcome to the forum SandyG. I agree with others, a very nice coin that would be very close to VF. The moustache detail seems ok for this grade, but most important, shows full bands diamond and 6 strong pearls. The diamond being a little joined to bottom band, a little wear on the lower band, and the edge knock on the reverse would put me off a solid VF grade, nearly VF easily though.
It may be just the picture, but looks as though it has had a touch up on the kings side as well.
That is a great link QldSandy supplied above for grading, but a good place to start is the objective requirements for each grade. A quick check guide if you like.
good - no pearls but all lettering etc visible.
VGood - 4 pearls with nice reverse.
almost Fine - 5 to 6 pearls and partial diamond.
Fine - 6 pearls, partial diamond, full lower band
gFine - as above with full centre diamond.
aVFine - as above with both bands visible
VFine - as above with 7th and 8th pearls visible
aEF - as above but with 7th and 8th pearls seperated - stronger bands. Hope it helps,
