Don't answer that....let's just say I'm slow. Probably at least 8 years ago, I bought this 2 cent piece from the UK. I think I paid like 15 dollars for it. It even occupied a space in my 7070 for a time. I always thought the color was wrong, but figured it was because it was cleaned. Just decided to weigh it tonight and look at some hi rez pics at Heritage. The coin's clearly a counterfeit....of some brass alloy. Instead of 6.2 grams, it weighs 5 grams. The numerals in the date are glaringly wrong, and the dentiled edge is not formed properly for the most part. Guess I'll drill a hole it and hang it on my key chain. Detail-wise....it's not a horrible fake (real students of Mr Longacre's work may disagree), and it fooled me for a long time, but it did not stay in my 7070 for long. I knew I didn't care for it....but never delved into "why" I didn't....until earlier this evening. Chance Edited by Chancellor Sutler 03/24/2018 11:44 pm

Other than the date it's not a bad attempt at counterfeiting.

If it's a contemporary counterfeit, don't drill it! It's worth some bucks. If it's a modern Chinese counterfeit, drill away. Sorry it's not my series, and I can't tell you which it is. Judging from my experience with Shield nickel counterfeits, the lopsided shield may be an indication that this a contemporary counterfeit.

I think its a modern counterfeit. I have an 1878 seated half that's a contemporary counterfeit though.

$1.28 on the no no site. Look at the divot on the 2 and the O and F on the reverse.

Yep....Same as mine. That would really fool a lot of us. At least that one is closer to the right color.

Raymo, by divits do you mean the marks/gashes? The OP's coin is a giveaway from the shield looking uneven and the lines being a bit funky. I have alot to learn about counterfeits as I collect this series. The coin you posted is hard to see as I cant enlarge it.
