I have painstakingly been going through my late father's coin collection to be able to sell on. There is a coin which is labelled Canada George lll half penny 1820 but I cannot find anything about it online. The coin actually has no writing on it except for the date. I would say condition is fine. Coould this be a token? Or maybe it has nothing to do with Canada. Any help?

Looks like a lower Canada half penny commerce token.

It is a Canadian Blacksmith token from Lower Canada.

First off, welcome.

Here's an additional webpage showing this token: https://www.monnaiecanada.com/en/ca...oken-lc-57a2

I wonder if the unflattering portrait of George III was deliberate, perhaps intended as a subtle form of satire or ridicule.

Looking at the websites it seems that the one my late father had is in pretty good condition.

Both links above have gone to the wrong token - they both show the crude head design and uneven date- LC-57A2.
The one you have is LC-57A1- Fine head design, coinage axis, Couteau #Co37NL. At least VF+ condition but I think it could be EF. The lines on the obverse look like they are planchet flaws or laminations.

I concur with TerryT's attribution, but I would grade this a F 15.

Cannot find very much about it. Yesterday I found another token but it is bigger so must be a penny. It is not in good condition at all. Cannot even see the date. Is there a website that gives rough values of these coins. I doubt the finer one is worth very much but am trying to value the coins in the collection to sell.

Wow Colonial Tokens, I thought I was a tough grader. I would have thought the second example shown in this thread would rate a F-12/F15 (if there was no damage). Guess I've been seeing too many NGC slabs.
