Besides the color, the date 1"96"9 is weird. Anyone know why the date is like that and how did it get the color?

The color looks okay to me and the date has damage ( PMD). That's pretty much the definition of "mangled".

I agree PMD and the color does look a bit pinkish and dull so maybe a harsh cleaning with mayo or ketchup.
