It's been a little while since I've shared any of my recent acquisitions, so I thought that I'd post this little guy. I don't have too many bracteates in my collection because they seem extra fragile even by medieval silver standards, but this one has survived since the 13th Century in pretty good shape. This uniface coin dates to Bela IV's reign (1235 to 1270 AD) and is attributed as Frynas H.18.51 and Huszar 192.

Interestingly, Bela IV created the royal town of Buda (now the western half of Budapest, Hungary). I've also included a pic of one wall of the existing castle in Buda that I took on a recent visit. Having been rebuilt perhaps a half dozen times over the centuries, you can clearly see the reuse of several iterations of prior building materials in this current incarnation.

Nice one, Dave. And how cool that you visited a site that provides some context for the coin. Thanks for sharing.

Nice coin, great detail. Pretty sure I have 1/100th the number of medievals you have, but I am always appreciating what others share here.
