I do believe that at least one member of CCF collects holed coins like these. There is a very personal history attached to a coin that was worn on a chain or for some other use.Now whether or not they have value,at least they are worth $1.50 US face value or more for their metal content.

Indeed worth silver melt value ... but alas the numismatic 'extra' value has been lost as a result of the holes.

indeed to the CCF.

I have a few "holed" coins, more for whimsy than collecting, it does as Dennman said have history behind it, the wonder of what purpose, a necklace, a button, a string toy (whizzers) the door pull to the outhouse, good luck token above a business, the "first dollar made"...endless.

My brother-in-law keeps a holed silver dollar on his keychain.
Your two coins are worth their silver value of about $18.50 (for both) based on today's silver price of $16.35 per troy ounce.

Rest in Peace

I agree with the others that your coins have intrinsic value from the silver, but little numismatic value due to the holes.

And too so much depends on the size of the hole. If small like yours, a bit of a loss. If very large, even the amount of Silver is much less.
Many people do this to collect small amounts of Silver from each coin. Others do it to make a necklace or bracelet.

A Bust dollar with a hole in it is still worth $300. A Liberty Seated dollar with a hole is still worth $125. So no, it does not bring it down to melt. Now if the coin is common to begin with, then that is likely the case.

That's the right idea. The "numismatic value" would have been $30-35 total at most anyway. The dollar might have been a watch fob and the Franklin looks like it was nailed to something, possibly a good luck piece inside a door frame? http://goccf.com/t/61487
