EX-45 , gash from eye to ear and dark reverse . Might bring it down a notch .

EF-40, shame about the cut down from the eye.

I think that cut might detail it.

Thanks for your input frog. I have owned some very colorful coins that were details. An 1892 barber half and a 1876-S Trade dollar were both detailed, but I sold them both for more than 50% above retail list. I think this is another one where eye appeal completely overtakes the problem, the scratch in this instance, which frankly is only visible when the coin is blown up to 10x its size. Love the coin, and for 15 smackers the price was right too. I am not in the business of selling coins, but I do list part of my collection at prices that signify a substantial premium for the positive attributes that led me to buy the coins. That frees up money to buy other coins that I am interested in buying. I don't mind minor problems when there are other overwhelmingly offsetting positive attributes. I understand that this approach doesn't work for purists who may only want problem free, stunning-looking coins. I'll leave others to bid up those coins into the stratosphere.

Don't misunderstand me. I am just offering an objective opinion - in this case, the cut bothers me as well as the contrast between the obverse and reverse coloring. Value? Don't know or care. You are an adventuresome sort and I'm glad your instincts are paying off.

EF 45 and the scratch is unfortunate, but I think will not detract most graders. There are some 'better' places for that scratch to have occurred, but 95% other places much worse than where it is from the way it is oriented.

XF-40. Nice toning. Scratch is distracting, but not enough for a details grade in my opinion.
