Hi there. My name is Sarah. I am glad I found this site! I am here partly due to the fact that my husband has amassed a substantial coin collection from his grandmother (I will probably post photos of ones I am curious to see what y'all think of at a later date) and cause I would like to add to it and, also hunt for silver dimes, quarters, halves, etc through bank roll hunting. Yesterday was my first attempt bank roll hunting. I bought 100$ worth of halves and 50$ worth of dimes, but didn't find anything. I did bring the 150$ back to the bank (different branch) so I didn't really 'lose' anything but my time.. however looking through was interesting. I was wondering if there is any specific way to properly do bankroll hunting? I hear vaguely about customer wrapped rolls being potential winners, and that the standard bank rolled ones are 'junk'? I am rather new to the terminologies and ways of doing things.. but I am willing to learn! :)
Welcome Sarah. Your in for a ride so hang on. I searched about 22,500 cents before I found my first variety a 1960 D repunched mintmark FS-502 Memorial cent. Get both cherrypickers handbooks volumes one and two, a MegaRed Guidebook of US coins, a movable lamp, a 10x and 16× magnifying glass and learn as you go. When you discover your first variety (doubled die) it will send rivets of joy through you as you will have earned it. Whitman's is the go to site on the web, they got everything for the coin hound. Good luck, let us know when you nab that first good one. Maybe beginner's luck will be with you.
