Looking at buying proof sets from the 50s. Noticed many on ebay sold in hard plastic holders and some in original cellophane, Which is better? I assume the ones in plastic holders were removed from the original cellophane. Thoughts?

The cellophane ones are not proofs, but uncirculated mint sets.

@kdawg, first welcome to CCF. Second, this question has been asked a few times in the past and you might be interested in readying some of these prior threads as you research best practices for storage methods. If you use the key words PROOF and CELLOPHANE in the search box in the upper left hand part of your screen, you will find several good CCF threads. Here is a link to one example: http://goccf.com/t/264093

To CCF , Keeping them in the cellophane shows and proves originality . A lot of folks take them out of the set and put all 5 coins in a Capital plastic holder . Yet some put the proof coins individually in Air-tites or 2x2 holders . I for one would put the coins in Air-Tites .

I have a lot that I keep in the cellophane and then put in 2x2, the only problem with this is when you have to take pictures it makes it a bit tricky.

Not entirely true. On the OGP of the proof set on the bottom left corner of the envelope are the letters (P C) On the OGP of the mint set on the bottom left corner of the envelope are the letters (U C) Both of which are packed in cellophane. Edit: BTW,

Sel_69l, thanks for the idea! I just bought 25 pages to display a bunch of cello sets I've had stashed in a box for years.

2 vertical pocket pages are ideal for proof sets. Take the set out of the envelope (unless the envelope is still sealed) and put the envelope behind the set to show both.
