Hi I found this penny and right away I noticed on the obverse side that the word "GOD" looks like GUD. Also the 1982 date seems to be large. The lettering almost looks like its been struck twice and cut off at the edge. On the reverse side again part of the letters are cut off at the top, the F in "oF", and the ER in "AMERICA". Also the E in "E PLURIBUS"... looks like a light stamped F. The penny is actually a darker tone that what they look like on the pictures. I know these are not the best pictures but the best I could to at this time

Sounds like a deteriorating die situation.

Or the rim was pushed into the coin as a slight Dryer Coin. Also note the devices are "softened"

Thank you for the welcome. Is the larger date and the E/F what you're referring to when you say deteriorating die? Also I hadn't heard about Dryer Coins but that very cool. Great bit of info for me as a complete amateur for sure. On the obverse south side of the coins you can see the edge is complete and even some extra rim like its off center. Idk if you can see that with the pics. Had someone offer me 20 bucks for it so it made me feel like I should reaserch it a bit.

Haven't weighed it. How much should it weight. It is the same size as a regular cent.

normal weight should be approx 3 grams

if it weighs 2.5 grams it would be a copper plated zinc cent which would make it a transition error coin

Believe it or not, either that is a cast fake coin or it is one that has suffered damage in an acid bath to have become that distorted. That is NOT a mint produced error but I'm at a loss to say exactly what happened. It definitely was "doctored" some how.

Who would be able to tell me if it was doctored for sure.
Will try and weight it when I get home. If it weighs the same as the one cents doesn't that mean they it wasn't doctored since acid would strip a coating off?
Thank you for welcoming me. And the chance to learn a lesson definitely

The design is not correct. Note the devices near the rim are missing the edge that should be there. Maybe a sand cast? Does it stick to a magnet? Weight?

Or maybe it was sand blasted?

It should weigh either 3.1g (for copper) or 2.5g (for plated zinc). Both were made that year and neither would be an error. I asked because what it is made of will help figure out what happened to it.

It is a little puzzling...

OK so, its lighter than a copper cent and about the same as a zinc cent, but thats just using a makeshift balance to weight them. Sounds like a zinc when I drop it on a granite countertop. Idk if that's way used to accurately distinguish them.

Doesn't seem to be attracted to any magnets. Ordering a scale tonight so I'll have exact weights soon. In the meantime I found these two 1982d copper cents I think. Any thoughts?
