Looking at the "2018 Special Wrap Roll" set on the RCM website, they show the loonie as having the date on both sides of the coin. This differs from the loonie in the uncirculated set (I checked mine) which has the date only on the obverse. This may very well be an error with the image on the website, and that is my hunch, but I guess it is possible that this coin is real and we will have two varieties of loonies for 2018, one with a date on one side and one with dates on both sides.

I did a side by side comparison of the 2 on the website, and there are other differences too. The designer's initials are in different spots and the letters in the word "dollar" are spaced differently. It would be interesting to know if that is also true when you get the coins in hand.

jazzy- good eye. The date is usually on the obverse for these loons. I think your hunch about the RCM graphic arts dept. messing up is correct. But if not, then we have 2 loons to get this year.

On the RCM site on the page for the UNC set, someone posed the question given two different Loon images are available (one on the group shot, one on the solo loon). The answer from the RCM was that it was an error in the image and the date is on the obverse.

The reverse looks like a old style loonie with laser Mark.

Coin is probably real, they wouldn't make an error on purpose, and coin does would have to be specially made for the photo if non circulation.

I don't think the coin is real. When you look at the RCM page for the uncirculated set, it shows the coin with the date on the Reverse in the pliofilm group shot but the loon solo shots show the date on the obverse only. There is a question in the listing regarding the date position and the answer provided by the RCM representative is that the date is on the obverse and the image is in error. Don't forget that these images are typically rendered not photographed. They are prepared for the website and print advertising well in advance of the physical coins being minted. It is fairly easy to change and apply the dates in photoshop. I assume that whatever package the RCM uses if not photoshop will allow this to occur with similar ease.

I don't think the coin exists. Was at the mint today in Ottawa and they had the rolls on display. Date was not shown underneath the loon as in the website graphics, just as I had expected.

I don't get why the mint Photoshops the coins. If they do admit the error, why don't they just change it, or is it "costly" like the lucky loonie?
