We could spend a lot of time on bishop-saints like Patrick, possibly even from A to Z Here is Saint Ambrose of Milan, considered one of great thinkers of the early medieval church:

Quote: Is that a dragon eating a baby or what? Close ... Actually the beast is a biscione, mostly snake-like. And it's at least eating an adult (i.e. NOT drawn to scale). It's the symbol of the Visconti family of MIlan. Here is more than you would ever want to know: https://medium.com/viridisgreen/myt...e98778ed2671

FANTASTIC coin! I've looked at few of those Halberstadt bracteates, and always turned away. I'll try to keep the alphabetical thing going in parallel with other coins that get posted. For my C-bishop, here is a coin of Konstanz (Constance), Germany with Saint Conrad wearing his bishop's garb (he was bishop of Constance from 934 until his death in 975). I don't think I have a D, but anyone who has a coin from medieval Arezzo, Italy probably has Saint Donatus, a 4th century bishop of that place.

Quote: Protector of Ragusa St. Blasius standing Great coin! And a reminder (stylistically) of that place's position between the Byzantine world and western Europe. I mentioned I don't have a saint whose name starts with D, but there was one posted some time ago over on this thread, Saint Donatous of Arezzo: http://goccf.com/t/367831&whichpage...Terms=SaintsFor E I have Saint Emidius, who was an early bishop of Ascoli, Italy (according to tradition martyred in 309 A.D. during the persectuion of Emperor Diocletian) and shows up on the medieval coins of Ascoli (1/2 grosso):
