I found this in a circulated bankroll from a bank box of U.S. Pennies. This Die Chip is not nearly as big as the one from 2007, but it's still fairly big as it can be seen from the naked eye. This isn't Zinc Rot!

Oops, oh yeah. It's on the 2nd column. Thank you for correcting me. It's pretty unusual to find a perfectly well placed Die Chip on the Memorial Columns.

@E&V, interesting coin--thanks for posting.

I'm not 100% convinced though that you have a die chip. When I blow up the first image, it looks more to me like you have focal PMD to the left of the column that exposed the zinc core (and this is now starting to puff up the copper plating on the column). I'm definitely guessing a bit here and could easily be wrong, but consider taking an extreme close-up pic to further investigate what you've got.

Here Spence, I'll give you a better closeup shot of that area. It's raise and also has pre-Die Chip Die Cracks too.

Ok yes that looks more like a die chip to me. On your previous pic, it looked more like there was a sharp punch in the field between the columns, with the surrounding metal smushed up around. Your new pic seems to show that the metal is proud throughout the defect.
Thanks for the clarification!

You're very welcome! Sometimes, pictures can be very deceiving if it's not taken at a close distance. I put that cent right up to the USB scope camera, focused it, and then took the picture. That's how I got this good picture.
