This is a fun coin. It is a MDS 1930-S CONECA RPM-004 (Wexler has it as WRPM-005) with a nice lamination from about 12:00 to 4:00 on the reverse. Both Dr. Wiles and John Wexler list this as S/S Northwest, but I have always thought that it should be S/S/S NW and SE.

Like all the 1930-S RPMs, it is common, but a bit pesky to spot in the wild. This is another coin from my junk boxes, all pulled from circulation back in the 1960s.

Here are the date and mm:

And a closeup of the mm:

Here are the obverse markers:

And a cheat circling the die gouge and pointing to some of the remaining MDS die scratches below the front of the portrait. The die scratches disappear quickly in MDS, but the small gouge is the lasting marker.

Here is the reverse marker. It is also really weak in MDS.

And a cheat pointing to the very light remaining marker, the bowed scratches between "R" and "I" of EPU:

And the fun bonus on this critter, the reverse lamination:

From what I can see, the location looks correct, but the RPM is not the correct shape. The Same edge of the 9 and the mint mark shows MD in the same direction. There should be some North present on the mint mark. That is missing. There is some gunk around the mint mark, but so far I don't feel it is a RPM.

That's one heck of a Lamination you have going on there on the reverse! Nice one!

coop, on this one, John Wexler notes that the top loop is missing on Stage B: "Obverse Stage B: Weak secondary mint mark not showing the upper curve. Scratches from the bust are much weaker." This one is clearly well into MDS and a couple time zones removed from Stage A.

I'm convinced this is CONECA RPM-004 / Wexler WRPM-005, especially since the markers are all present. I've only seen one Stage A in a show, and it was priced way out of my wallet size. The Stage A example had both loops.

I still think CONECA RPM-004 / Wexler WRPM-005 is S/S/S, rather than S/S, but I know I'm in the minority on that view.
