I'm bad at grading silver, but: XF45? AU50? Somewhere in that range imo. (I <3 the dark toning )

UNC! at best....AU58 at worst. ...and original skin!!
Do not do anything with this coin.
Google "PCGS Photograde" - excellent info on all U.S. coins for a good idea of grade.
I would put this half in a nice plastic holder and place back in the envelope.
Thank you for sharing this treasure!

Ditto here. Don't be tempted to clean or monkey with the surfaces. It will only harm the coin. Some of the pictures make it look MS others 55. Better pics are needed and to CCF!

AU 58, the slightest bit of rub on the high points.

acloco, thanks for the advice. The only plan I have for this, and all the coins in my collection, is to pass it on to whichever of my 13 grandchildren show a genuine interest in collecting. One thing they will have to pledge is that the coins that were in the envelope (there were others) are not for sale or to be traded. They stay in the family.

I'm with @numismatic student. Looks like it was dipped at some point and retoned in the envelope. I love toned coins, but not a fan of this type for some reason
