The location of the mint mark is not correct for 001 RCD-1c-1943S-03R The location of the mint mark looks closer on this one.
Mint mark locations do come into play on varieties. On DDRs you have to consider if they changed the other die or not.

coop, I have never doubted you before and right now I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing! I'm having a hard time with the two mint marks. They look too close for my eyes to distinguish the subtle differences. I'm going to try Crazyb0's trick with the lines and see if I can tell the difference. As always, I appreciate your knowledge and wisdom.

Well it could be a different one also, not either. Having larger images to see the mint mark would be more help full. Also you could make a side by side of the areas in question to see if the die crack areas are the same or not. (if one crack was in a different place, then they would not be from the same die. Die cracks can enlarge, but the locations might not)

Thank you coop! That's a great idea and I think I'll take some time to do just that. I'll also post a close up of the mint mark momentarily.

Your coins mint mark is lower just a bit. How can I tell? Go to the site open the image into a new screen, then use the ctrl and + key at the same time and it will enlarge the image. Use a piece of paper on the bottoms of the 9 & 3, then measure with your coins image. Yours is lower, so it is not from the same die, unless the changed obverse dies. You might submit you coin.

That's funny coop! I just started to do just that with a plastic 6" ruler! So it is closer to the 03R. That's the closets match! But I will email these pics to JC to see what he thinks. Once again my friend, you are correct. Thank you

Well I had to look even closer to see that is was not 03. The brain had to figure out how to make the image on the site larger, then used a folded paper to see they were different. (Sound real high tech? NOT)

Good find especially for a 43-S steel cent. I've never found errors on steel cents!

You're very welcome Tootallious! That's awesome that it was from a collection you inherited. Was the collection you inherited from your father?

Oh okay. I remember now. It was from your grandfather, not you father. Lol, that was a brain fart right there! I somehow got them mixed up for some reason. :)
