to CCF Thanks for sharing that is the first Spiked Head LP2 that I have seen but there are others here that surely know more about this and I am sure they will drop in. You are at the right place for sure.

NP. I have a few spiked heads but obviously none like this. At first I def thought it was a cool find but then I started to think about how cool it is that it's in the reverse instead of the front and the fact it's a special year in which there were multiple different images...I don't care what it's worth. The fact that its prob pretty rare is what makes it a really cool find

Nice find @waynoah83. I can't speak to its rarity, but we definitely see more die cracks on the obv hitting poor Abe than on the rev. If nothing else, the target is smaller on the rev. It is a very nice example and the price was right.

http://cuds-on-coins.com/Lincoln-ce...s-2000-2009/Here's a link for spiked heads found and submitted to COC. I don't see a 2009 on the list and I've found quite a few earlier Lincolns but not a 2009 but then again, I vary rarely find a 2009 anyways. Definitely a great find and nice example. I'd read through that link and submit it for listing.

Nice find! "SPIKE HEADS" are die cracks found on Obverse only.

I bought a set of 50 different double dies in this 2009. All of mine are on the reverse. I would buy one to add gladly to my collection

Quote: "SPIKE HEADS" are die cracks found on Obverse only. True @tunnioc? I didn't know that.

That is the official description of a spiked head because Lincoln has always been on the obverse except for the 2009 run.

Ok hmm, then it sounds like only Abe can truly be a "spiked head"? Again, good information to know as I assumed this was a more generic descriptor of any portrait on a coin with an intersecting die crack. Of course you will know that the 1804 Half Cents have a "Spiked Chin" variety that occurred when the obv die was damaged.
