Hello everyone!

I have this little coin that I have not been able to definitively identify. By looking through the Internet and comparing the writing to other coins, I am thinking maybe Seljuks of Rum? I was wondering what you all think. I have measured it to be about 14 mm from each end (the sides that look like they were cut). I do not have a way to weigh it.

If the coin is so worn down so that it cannot be identified, that's alright.

Thank you!

This is a fractional dirham of the Mamluk Sultans. They are struck from dies intended for the full dirham, so normally only a part of the legend shows. If poorly struck, as we have here, even less. However, I think we can attribute your coin. The first image shows only a bit of the religious legend Muhammad rassul Allah ("Muhammad is the prophet of Allah"). The second image shows a portion of the ruler's name al-sult[an] / [al-A]shraf Sal[ah]. Your coin was most likely issued by al-Ashraf Salah al-Din Khalil who ruled from 1290 to 1293. The legible portions of your coin match perfectly with a full dirham of this ruler plated in Balog (#151), type of Damascus. Album 899.

Mamluk Sultans, Khalil, 1290-1293, AR fractional dirham, mint (Damascus) and date missing, Album 899.
