Im not really sure on this one. I do see what you are talking about but this might just be a Cud. This does not look like an RPM because it does not show an overcast of another mark, but only shows something on the side. Whether or not this is an error, I do not believe this is an RPM

There aren't any RPMs listed for 1896-O. And it's very difficult to tell if this is an unlisted RPM because of how low grade it is.

A Cud is a die break involving the rim of the coin, do you two mean a die chip? Either way, I disagree, it is either a RPM or damage, I'm not 100% certain which one it is.

A Cud involves the rim. Could be a hit or dirt was disturbed.

the second device is way to flat to be either a die chip or and RPM looks a lot more like either PMD or MD.

Looks like Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). You can see the pushed over and flattened metal.
