Hello all,

I'm interested in making an offer on this coin.

Let me know your thoughts on grade and what you would offer in Canadian funds.

Much appriciated

On the Obv: The braid looks great, a little flatness at the Peak but that could have need caused by a weak strike which is common in this series. Can't get a good sense of the cheek from the photo.

On the Rev: The crown looks complete ... but there is flatness at the points of the two top right leaves, which is a high point.

I'd defer to whatever ICCS said without the coin in hand, but I'd say either AU-55/58 or MS

Trends on prices can be found here: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1858-1858

The market is weak so a lot of things have been selling below trends, but some high-end coins have been doing well. What you offer should be based on how much you want it (i.e. are you trying to complete a registry) and your elasticity of consumption.

Looking at the wear on the laurel leaves,
I would agree with VF30. VF40 at the best.
That is the re-engraved 5 variety, so that increases
the value slightly.

The average selling prices on ebay are:
VF30-214.00
VF40-245.00

My interest is in the odd denomination 20 cents. I always wanted one and this one has come up, so I am thinking of stepping up. I new there was variations of this coin and I wasn't sure which one it fell under. They always say buy the coin not the holder, so I am curious how this one measures up to that saying.

I'll post the actual grade tomorrow.

I think AU50.

Offer VF40 money for it, but remember that book trends are for full retail pricing. That means offering a VF40 price.

A coin dealer would probably try to sell it for an AU50 price, if he need to move it. He has to make at least 50% profit unless he has an immediate buyer, in which case, he may procure it for 75% of trends pricing.

I'm in the EF range on this one but the pictures seem a little washed out for me. The Canadian market is very soft right now but this coin is very popular and is relatively unaffected. Should cost around 70-75% of trends.

Thanks again guys. You all helped a lot. I agree with everyone I thought it was graded high for what it looks like.

I offered 409.50 cad with premium and tax included. Lets see what happens.

I guess having a better look and comparing it to this, AU-50 would be fair. ICCS EF-40 Below....
