So I have not gotten 4 boxes like this. The wrappers appear that they have been removed and "put back" (not as well at the machine puts them on originally. In addition almost all of the coins have black marker marks on the edges. I am not sure how this happened. At first I thought that someone at the coin wrapping company had messed with the boxes, but I don't think that makes sense. The boxes come sealed, but it's obvious that something funny has happened. Every box I have gotten like this has had 3 characteristics. 1. There is no silver 2. The wrappers are loose and look tampered with 3. The coins are marked on the edges with a black marker, oddly enough the marker marks are not all in line with each other, but about halve the coins have the mark on them. One theory I thought of was that someone was buying boxes and opening the wrappers just enough to edge search the coins and mark them, and then returning the boxes to a bank. However the boxes are sealed.... Anyone know what's going on with these crappy boxes? This has frustrated my son and I. We are getting to the point that we know the boxes are junk right when we open them.

Repackaged dump. Rolls searched by someone, rerolled and returned, box sealed by bank, courier or even another roll hunter. It does disappoint.
Pointless to bring it up to bank management, as it is their job to provide the coin in the correct amount. Time for a new bank, or better yet, Credit Union.

Well that sucks. What a let down. Does your bank have a different branch you could go to maybe?

Is your theory that the person rerolling them, is using the same paper (original machine wrapping) and returning them to my bank, then my bank is sealing the box back up to look original?

Quote: Well that sucks. What a let down. Does your bank have a different branch you could go to maybe? I am almost positive this is not an issue with my branch. I do alot of business with this bank and also know some of the employees personally. I really don't think its the employees at the bank. They know what I do with the coins, and they have said that I am the only one doing it (CRHing halves). I think they are getting the boxes like this from the coin company. Not all boxes are like this, but lately about one in 5 boxes are like this. In addition, my branch would not be sealing the boxes back up like this. They are sealed just as the company providing the boxes seals them.

I understand the frustration. I don't think the bank is doing anything wrong. Non-machine wrapped paper wrappers are acceptable at banks. So, open machine-wrapped rolls are also acceptable. I do nickels and cents, and I'll get 1) boxes of new coins (e.g., all 2016) or 2) entirely searched coins (no wheat cents, no coins prior to 1960), etc. I don't blame the bank. Luck of the draw. Frustrating? Absolutely.

The bank isn't trying to trick anyone, they're just sealing it to keep the rolls in. Quote: They know what I do with the coins, and they have said that I am the only one doing it (CRHing halves). It's not unlikely that someone else is hunting elsewhere and using your bank as their dumping grounds.

Dump boxes. Insures silver is pulled. Often done at locations which do a lot of change business, such as a car wash.
But with halves you are getting already cleaned dump.

I'm betting they are putting the old rolls in a new box at the supplier, not at the bank.

Quote: I'm betting they are putting the old rolls in a new box at the supplier, not at the bank. That's the theory I was thinking. But it is still weird that these bad boxes have all the same characteristics, including bad paper rolling and the same black marker streaks on the edge. I mean like 80-90% of the rolls have one or more of these black marker marks on the edges. And the wrappers happen to be shotty in these boxes.... The Majority of boxes I get have nice tight rolled papers and I don't see many markers on the sides of the coins. But I am getting to the point that I can identify these weird boxes right when I open the box I see loose rolls. So I open a few rolls and find the black marks on the edges within minutes.

Briton, first off, this is most likely not re-rolled by a customer, but you most obviously received someone's dump. Most likely they dumped at a machine and then it was taken to a 3rd party supplier and rolled.
I have received machine rolled coin in wrapper that look just like that, loose, edges not properly rolled in etc. I imagine it was an issue with the machine or perhaps a novice with the machine on a given day.
Because the marks on the coins are not straight across the coins were put into the wrappers after they were marked and had shuffled around, like is a bag.
You received someone's dump, we all have this issue, the only thing to do is put on the big boy pants and move onto the next box.

This happened to me on my first ever box of halves. I was super excited to search and when I opened the box, that was sealed, all the rolls were loose on one end and every half had a black mark on it. No silver. It was obvious someone had searched the box and returned it. But I too was confused as to why it was sealed.

That is lousy briton. I think it is part of the cost of doing busines. I once picked up 3 boxes of sealed halves and someone wrote on the boxes "No Silver". I did't even want to open them. I did and all boxes were skunks. All the rolls were wrapped tight. I just wondered who wrote on those rolls and knew there was no silver.
