Just dropped by a local CoinStar and dropped off $20 in pennies. Oddly I had a quarter, a few pennies, a Canadian coin and 2 nickels in the return slot. This is one of them.

It has been polished to use it as a piece of jewelry, like a key chain fob or necklace. Now all it has is it's silver value

I can see why/how this guy may have been floating around in circulation all these years without being captured. Perfect camouflage for today's junk coinage!

That 90 cents in silver will probably buy you the same candy bar that the original nickel would have!
Rest in Peace

Coinstar returns are good .I actually liked the returns from the penny arcade before TD Bank shut them down . The bulk of the returns used to get caught deep into the return tube . Many people didn't know this . One time I dug out 11 coins including silver .

It only got rejected because the weight is off. A normal War Nickel will weigh the same as the copper-nickel ones and thus will be accepted. To date, I have found exactly one War Nickel out of a Coinstar, and it looks very similar. I think it was a 1944-D, but I'll have to double check.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
