Hello I'm Jamie from South Carolina. I'm fairly new to the coin collecting community. I have been collecting all sorts of coins from various years. I've fallen in love with searching for and finding error coins. I have come across an interesting find. It is a 1954 P Wheat penny that is very odd on the obverse and reverse side. I have searched and not found any answers. Please help with identifying this coin. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Of course I am hoping for a rare find. I am very happy to be a member here and am looking forward to learning more. Thanks again. I have downloaded some pictures. Hope they are ok.

Your pics are not sharp enough to clearly show the areas of your interest. Also, try to explain as best you can what details you are focusing on.

On the obverse side, it appears to me if Lincoln or someone is tripled. Looks like 3 people to me to the left of Lincoln. On the reverse, it looks like a Cud on the top of coin. Almost looks like the Capitol building with letters and maybe a face. I will try to get clearer photos. Thanks for the reply.

@JKW, first welcome to CCF. Second, your explanation in your follow-up post definitely helps. On the front, it looks to me like there is some staining to the left of Abe's portrait. This could have been caused by environmental exposure. On the back at the top, there is an area of discoloration that looks like it was from heat, or perhaps heat and electricity. I'm quite confident that it is not a Cud and almost certainly your coin just has a bunch of damage rather than any mint errors. As a Wheat cent, it would carry a small preiumn over face, but probably isn't worth putting in a 2x2 as there is already a lot of damage.

I see the so called triple effect in the back of Lincolns head but I suspect just damage.

In a couple pictures it looks like a die crack from rim up through R in Liberty. Try taking steady, clear pictures of the whole coin from a bit farther away.

Of course those ghostly images on the back of Lincoln's head could be just that, ghosts.

To CCF! This is not even close to being an error. This is just Post Mint Damage. The obverse took a couple of hits and the reverse has a bad stain on it. Worth face/Copper melt value. Keep it since it's a Wheat cent.
