I bought this coin back in 2001 when I used to work at Armor Transport in a seal US Mint Nickel Bag. Recently, I just thought about it and try to do a little research but what I have found are some kind of 60s to 80s date. Nothing close to the modern date. I wonder if it rare on the modern date, and is it worth it to get it grade. Only if it in high MS grade. It is full red and Full Step. It weight 2.48gr.

You would be very wise to send that in and get it certified by TPG as PCGS or NGC right away. It is a "wrong planchet" error and in high grade worth way more than Coffin cost. Fortunate purchase and known provenance, excellent!

Looks like a press operator took liberties perhaps. Nice error coin! I agree on getting it third party graded.

@vietguy823, that certainly looks like a nickel was struck on a previously struck cent to me. I agree that getting it into a slab would be the next logical step. Assuming that it is real, that would be quite an error to have in your collection.

Without a doubt it looks like a nickel struck on a previously struck cent and I'd say unquestionably genuine.

Pretty cool and I'd drop the grading fees on it immediately.

Very nice! It was struck on the wrong Planchet (Cent Planchet). This coin is definitely worth getting professionally graded.

Hi! guys, Sorry to bring back the old topic, but I need help of selling it. Well, the other day I brought it to the coin, gold, and silver store to get them help me send it in for slab as my membership had expired(PCGS)not planning to renwew it yet. And the guy in there offered me $1500 before getting the slab for it (RAW). Do you guys think I should let it go for that amount. The guy said it might get up to MS68 for a Nickel struck on already struck cent error. Thanks for all your input guys.

I think 1500 dollars is a good amount for that error coin. You are definitely getting a good deal. I looked on ebay and most of them are going only in the couple hundred dollar range, so you're getting a great deal. Here's the link to ebay and look at the prices for this error coin. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...ent+planchet

Thanks Error and Variety. Well, he said that alot of his collector are looking for all sort of 2001 error and variety coun and they willing to put out high amount. As what happen to 2001 in modern history was the New York 911 terrorist attack and the beginning of all the US drama of war. This double denomination error coin happen to be the year 2001.
