Just picked up three of these and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they are Hudson Bay company or not. They are lead. Thats all I know for sure.

Thanks

In a quick search on the interwebs, it looks like these might be tags from fur bales used by the Hudson Bay Company. However, this is pretty far from my area of expertise.

I'm going to recommend to the mods that your thread be moved to the tokens section so that other eyes can get on it.

There is a fantastic historical series on the HB. Since their tokens are so terribly speedy a lead weight might be a possibility.

I remember the first time the discoverer contacted me about these probably indirectly knowing my Canadian work with Blacksmiths and metallurgy with XRF and SEM/EDS analysis on various coinages throughout the world. Anyhow we ran some tests and their high Pb and trace metals both organic and inorganic made them 'probable" 19thC period pieces IMO. He then contact Hudson Bay Museum in Manitoba here:

https://manitobamuseum.ca/main/visi...hbc-gallery/

They never seen these pieces at this time so he wrote an article. This was like 10 years ago. I forget his name. After my work he gave me one (not sure if I still have it?) and the Museum, myself and this investigator we decided they could be nothing else than bale seals based on their high lead fabric, almost all always having a hole for attachment (i.e., to a bale of goods?) and having no previous recorded numismatic literature link at Manitoba either as a coin, medal or token. He found them metal detecting but its unearthing location escapes me.
