Yet again, I end up with brand spankin' new zinc Lincolns from the bank instead of circulated cents to sift through. Anything interesting with the 2018 P cents that would make it worth the effort and eye strain? Is it odd that I'm disappointed to receive such shiny new cents?

When looking through "new" coins check for everything. On the obverse check date and all lettering. Check for clashes in the field. On the reverse check all letters. Remember "EPU" is incuse and will be affected differently be a doubled die. Also check for Cuds and die breaks.

When I get a box of "new" cents I open the rolls with reverse on bath ends. If I don,t find anything I pawn the others off on e-bay.

To me, it seems like a great opportunity to find a "discovery coin", whether major or minor. DrDon points out some of the things to look for that could make it worth the time.

Sometimes you need to be thankful that you get a few of these OBW rolls and just salt them away in Nickel tubes for future family members to enjoy . Oh , have I mentioned I've been doing this since 1961 with out a hiatus .
I took this path in collecting because I was never an error or variety man . But if your into errors & variety's by all means listen to DrDon .

I had a lady buy a few rolls and thanked me for them. She wanted to put them away for her new born grandchild.

Agree that a few rolls should be checked. You may discover the next major DD. If you find something, there will probably be more than one in the roll. It is also more than likely there will be more of the same in some of the other rolls.

next time you go to the bank ask for customer wrapped rolls, that's where the good coins are often found..

Try to get individually wrapped rolls. Last week I asked for these at the bank and received a 25$ box of them. Can't help but think someone searched this box re-rolled them and cashed them back in.
