@Galaxy02345, first welcome to CCF. Second, when I compare your coin to another 1978 D cent, the spacing looks about the same. I'm thinking that there is a bit of an optical illusion due to the metal being dark between the 9 and the 7, but light between the 7 and the 8.

And yes, SD is correct, one will see what one's mind wishes to see until they understand what is real(normal) or artificial(error).

...I know they all do, I just lol'ed this time, with this one.

Anywho, I get what the OP saw there. Seems all the 78's I catch have pretty fat numbers, hit one w/a skinny 1978 and it might throw us noobs off a bit.
