Help please. Found this 2007 Washington quarter and it looks like the spaces in between the design is shaded...havent seen that before. Any ideas?

Well for sure it is PMD. I'm happy to offer one possible scenario as to the source of the damage, but your quarter is a spender at the end of the day. The darkness comes from a diffference in chemical or environmental exposure compared with the other, shiny parts of the fields. Perhaps someone stored this coin in flexible plastic (e.g. PVC) and the plastic degraded thus darkening areas that were in contact? Normally this leaves a gooey green residue, but it might have darkened the surface of your coin.

,if the surface on the darker areas are showing an un-struck planchet look, then there my have been oil, water or grease on the field area. This prevents the field from being struck and looking a different color.
