Howdy y'all.. Short-term lurker un-masking here.. I'm located in east-central FL.. For the past ten years or so the majority of my hobby time has been spent metal detecting.. About six months ago an incident housebound me, and I'm still looking at around another six months or so before I can get back into more-than-minimal outdoor mode once again.. In order to keep from going completely bonkers while trapped indoors I found myself starting to slide back into something I did as a kid: filling penny books.. Not nearly as easy to do today as it was back then, lemme tell ya..! The days of walking into my locally-owned bank with a Vol 1 blue Lincoln Cent holder and three dollars for the first six rolls of pennies, sitting down at a deposit slip desk and walking out five hours later with a nearly completely filled book are long gone.. It didn't take long for me to modify and narrow my search: It's errors I seek these days, primary focus being '59 forward.. Sure, I check out Coop & Wexler et al sites, but every now and then I come across an error and I have absolutely no idea how and/or in what order this penny was struck, and struck again, then flipped, clipped and struck yet again.. Also there are times when ID'ing a lamination or a die crack with a retained chip etc., etc. isn't as simple as it sounds.. As I walk through this door for the first time, what I'm initially after is help in understanding how and in what order these things happen.. Nice to be here.. Swamp

If your main interest (currently) is errors, we have several sections for errors. And I see from your other post, you found one of those sections.

Thank you..
I failed to mention the inclusion of varieties, and I'll cop to wading through a low-mileage bag of wheats every now-and-again too..

Where exactly in east-central Florida are you from? I have family in Crescent City (that is where my mom was born and raised).

Quote: Where exactly in east-central Florida are you from? I have family in Crescent City (that is where my mom was born and raised). I live in an area of FL known as the "Space Coast," but not along the Space Coast, as I moved inland years n years n decades ago, because owning a single family dewlling along the shore was above my pay grade even during the best of times, which were pretty good earning periods for sure but not single-stream-income-beach-house-ownership-material good, and required a major life experiences trade-off as well, since as noted my thing by then (when not busy being a weekend rock-n-roll warrior) had turned into beach metal detecting and I went from needing to walk across the street to needing to drive a minimum of 21 miles to first find parking before getting to feel sand between my toes -- which is a silly saying cos I never metal detect barefoot on beaches, or anywhere else for that matter.. Anyhowww, thanks to the miracle of this heah interwebs thing it's sooo easy these days to take a gander at where anyone lives.. My little slice of reality is a quadrant bordered on the N by Titusville, FL, S by Cocoa, FL, E by US 1 along the Indian River and W by I-95.. And convenience should be purposed-based too, I suppose.. I can actually drive from where I live to the Santa Monica, CA pier and hit five fewer stoplights than I can between where I live and the Cocoa Beach, FL pier.. So there's that.. Crescent City, you say..? Now there's a chunk of FL yer average tourist / snowbird doesn't normally see.. Actually, these days it's a hunka FL yer average resident never sees either.. Not exactly on any beaten path.. I love it..! Swamp

But I tell people when I go there I go to see the "real" Florida and not the beach. My parents spent their first winter down there and loved it. The only problem was, they came back to early and had to hear my dad complain for two months.

Quote: I tell people when I go there I go to see the "real" Florida and not the beach. 's'truth.. You could take Crescent City n drop it anywhere in the country where the land is flat that isn't considered semi-arid and it would look like it had been there always.. Smallville, USA, and not even at a crossroad.. Quote: My parents spent their first winter down there and loved it. The only problem was, they came back to early and had to hear my dad complain for two months. Of the few snowbirds I know, almost all of them stay on a barrier island but not along the beach.. Their winter homes (usually small-to-medium condos) are anywhere from a couple to several blocks off the beach, which in Cape Canaveral & Cocoa Beach can easily put you right back along water -- the Banana River instead of the ocean.. That short distance can easily be a six figure difference in comparable dwelling purchase price.. Beyond that, taxes etc are the same.. It's a no brainer for better-off-but-not-wealthy retirees.. Point being, those folks do not come down here for just two-to-three months, at least not any longer.. They're now here for five-to-six months.. They all say basically the same thing: If I'm going to escape winter, I'm going to escape winter..! They get here before the snow flies and don't head back north until their rivers are ice-free.. Must be nice; I'd do it if I could too.. If your folks are going to continue doing this yearly, eventually one of two things will happen: They will either start spending more time here or they'll not show up until later in the year or even into the following year so they don't have to head back north until at least mid-April.. That's the only way the complaining stops, cos no one likes to leave here to still be faced with two more months of winter.. Swamp
