Well I finally went and purchased a box of dimes. After 2 hours of hard labour I found 2 silver dimes, 1957 and 1964. I was expecting more silver, I will try again tomorrow.

2 silver dimes in one box is really good sad to say. On average youll find 1 silver dime every 4 boxes.

If you looking for silver there. Your wasting your time for sure. I went thru 500 dollars worth dimes looking for an 2008 philly coin for my book. Not found yet. I did find one 1964 dime in there. Thats all.

In 1967 thru 1969 the fed banks used machices to remove silver from the clad mix. They went thru billions of dimes and the us mint melted them down back before 1970. Good luck and hope I can find my 2008 philly dime to fimish my set. I hate doing dimes and quarters for sure since fed removed them before I was born.

Haven't done much of it myself, but I've heard that "silver huntin'" dimes and quarters is slim pickings. Halves and nickels are what I've done.....good luck at times with 90% and 40%, but, never once did I find a silver War Nickel.....
Quarters are the hardest, then nickels, then dimes, with halves being the easiest.....and now those are getting tough too in many places. I hope your experience huntin' em' is far more productive than many say it will be with the dimes.

Well I am a little late with this update.
In my second box of dimes I found 3 silver dimes, a 47, a 62, and a 64. And a 1992 canadian comerative dime.
Also I finally purchased a box of quarters! No silver! Though I found a stunning 1973-s proof, no wear fingerprints or any other damage.

Hey all,

I picked up my first box of dimes to put together a 64 - 08 PD set and came up with 4 silvers! I thought this was great! So I went and got another box from the bank and came back with a big zero.

I think I will keep trying to get more dimes though, the Fed Boxes are easy as they are wrapped in plastic and I can just look for the silvers and unroll only the ones that have silver.

Secondly, after I found these silvers I started to pay more attention the change dispensers at Ralphs, and look for silver. So tonight I was at Ralphs and took a look, and lo and behold there was a 90% in there. I kindly asked the checker if I could grab and she said go for it, so, I pull it out...............

and it is a 1944 P MERCURY, great condition. Minimum of a VF 20, with great rims. AMAZING!

The checker then told me that she has found a couple of rosies and said she had never seen one like this, I gave her a quick history on dime mintage and she smiled and said she would start paying more attention!

I thought it was super cool, as reading a lot of posts a lot of the members have not pulled a MERC from circulation in a long time if ever, and I got one tonight!

Keep up the good hunting and the good updates!

CRHing for life!!!!
