NOT rare, you will find alot of cents with wear in that area, whether it be from over-polished or Grease Filled Dies. And actually because it's an extremely common Wheat cent it may fetch 2¢

It's called a Grease Filled Die or " Greaser" for short. It's a common occurrence generally not even collected unless a lot of the design elements are missing....like this one:

I thought this was a die issue so your saying this is due to wear? I saw one being sold at a coin place online for $3000

You will see a lot of bogus stuff being sold, what is sad, is the amount of uneducated or totally misinformed by hype folks who buy the crap...usually with a "no return" clause too. Be glad ya came here first before making that mistake!

@chm, first welcome to CCF. Yes your coin was minted with a little bit of grease stuck in several recessess in the die, such as the second letter T in TRUST. Your coin is complete enough that there wouldn't really be any extra numismatic value, but it is a great example and certainly worth saving for future reference.
