Yes. I am ashamed. I was pretty vigorous with the cleaning.
But look, in my defense, that stuff is like prehistoric petrified tar....

It would have come off with an overnite soak in acetone, I bet. Marks right except you made a 10c coin out of what you may have sold for a whole lot more.

@nm, we all have cleaned skeletons in our numismatic cabinets. Next time, you be better prepared to treat the coin properly.

Anywho, what is the stuff on it? Front and back, same stuff or no? Coincidence that it's on this particular coin? I guess my question is really more of is this common on dimes or quarters due to the damage it sustained at the mint or, again, just coincidence?

Next time, please don't clean the the coin again. Use Acetone or Verdi-Care, not anything else! You've just done major damage to you coin and now it's only worth a Dime.

Ok, give it to me straight... How much damage did I do? Are we talking dollar menu, happy meal or super size? Sorry for the food reference but "I live my life a quarter pounder at a time."

Sorry, but you did a lot of damage and don't even try to argue with me! It's not time to joke around, you need to take this seriously. You knew what you did. Again, DON'T ever clean a coin with anything other than Acetone and Verdi-Care. Got it? https://coinvalues.com/library/why-...n-your-coins

You did a huge amount of damage. Next time, only conserve/clean coins with 100% pure acetone or Verdi-Care unless you're a professional!

Would the crack on the reverse had the delaminated appearance straight from the mint or did that happen after being exposed to the elements?

What would the value of the coin have been if it wasn't scrubbed?

Steve, please, don't say "scrubbed" man you're gonna get me in even more hot water! Let's just stick with "vigorously cleaned"...

sel_69l, thank you. You're absolutely right. I'm exceedingly humble as well as modest. I actually surprise my self sometimes at how humble I am. Unfortunately, most people I meet can't get passed my good looks to even notice..
