This 1950-D LWC has an odd counterstamped shape I don't recognize. Any ideas?

That's a real puzzle. It sort of looks like sky lab but I doubt that's it.

I was also thinking it looks aeronautical or something associated with an early space program, but perhaps the 1950 date has nothing to do with it. It seems very deep in the coin - what does the reverse look like?

By the way, I did a Google image search on it, and of course it helpfully told me that this is a penny. So I cropped it to just the symbol, and Google told me that it's a pile of wood.
