*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

I came across this 1979 D LMC with a split serif at the bottom of the D. I have two of these with slightly different mintmark positions. There are no sites that have this one. Unlisted on Coppercoins, Variety Vista or Mr. Wexler's site. If there is another site I am not aware of and please share! Thoughts please.

That's one of the many "fooler" mintmarks. There is a lower serif MM, but like all good Real Estate its "Location...Location...Location" that matters

The top is a coin contact mark. A RPM is larger on the mint mark for the RPMs:

Another RPM from Variety Vista:

So why aren't these RPMS?
The mint mark punch was damaged with continued use making the mint marks on the hardened dies. This after a while bends or alters the punch.

If this were a one time occurrence of just one die affected, then it may not have been caught. But because many dies from all the different denominations being affected with the same mark on the MM area, then it was figured out it was from a damaged punch. So with the locations of the MM being varied, it was determined it was a damaged punch error.

You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.
