Well, mostly copper... You guys toss em back in the water? Bag-n-tag? They have a great ping, sound just like a penny.

That's actually an electrochemical reaction, salt/dirty water I'm guessing? That's like a battery plates charging and discharging, the deposits are attracted to the copper, and in essence "rises" to the surface as a crusty surface. I would spend them in a quick pick, because dumping them will get ya Zero!

Put them back into a roll and send them back to work. They are JPL. (Just-Plain-Ugly)

I would agree with you, BUT, these ping like a penny, just like a penny. I've found others that look pretty similar but didn't ping like these... No, I don't have a scale...
If it walks like a penny and talks like a penny... Not sure where I was going with that but it sounded good in my head.
Anywho, Crazy, that might be part of the anomaly but I'd bet this is a two parter. I hate sequels.

Shame on you coop, these are beautiful little mixed up dimes. It's not their fault.

Treat them special because they identify as pennies! I think that next time I pay my property taxes that I will take $30 in cents in and tell them that each one identifies as a small dollar coin.

Politically correct. I like that approach.

a poem....

Just Like a Penny

I was taking a stroll with my dog named Benny
When I came across some dimes not like just any.
I looked them over and they weren't quite proper
They weren't silvery but looked just like copper.
I was advised to spend them by oh so many
"But these ping like a penny, just like a penny".

Then some might hint to spend them like a cent.

If it looks like a dime and I've ten in hand.
I wouldn't holler, but would spend them like a dollar. Thanks, Doug.

your poem got me thinkin
we could ask Mr. Lincoln
If he lent out his copper
from the cents in the hopper
the ping from these dimes is that of a cent
shouldn't they be saved rather than spent?
I'll place them in plastic and put them away
and hope that their value will increase one day
I appreciate your poem and the sentiment behind it
and of course all the time that it took you to write it
regards to Bernard and happy coin hunting
good luck to you all and something something something

Sorry, kinda got lost on that last part...

Doug, A+ for the effort!
