This is not an actual medal, but apparently a trial strike on a copper-coated lead flan. It's obviously French and probably a medal -- does it look familiar to anyone?

If it helps any, the struck image has a diameter of 29 mm.

Is that a signed medal up near the top? F Dugo Sr? or something?
I am thinking this is actually an engraved coin, much like a love token is made and not struck.
Nice lettering but it can be done by hand.

oh my ... forget what I said about it being signed. I sharpened & enlarged to see it is just part of the leaves in the tree design. LOL

Is this something like one of those "hidden pictures" things where the womans head is part of the tree? It looks like one branch comes out and becomes a wreath on her head. I imagine this is Marianne?

Yes, a pic of the rev would be helpful. Also, what makes you think that it is copper-plated lead? What is the weight?

Well, like I said this is not actually the medal. I took it to a dealer yesterday and he suggested it was a (negative) hub splash of a medal. I reversed the image the first time to make it more viewable. The only writing on it is Republique Francaise. I'm hoping someone might recognize what medal this was used for.

I have found however that the medal I have shown is probably twice the size in diameter than nautilator's diameter of 29 mm.
