I just opened a previously mint sealed 1964 proof set, because the auction house said "we figured it would be wonderful, all the others were. This one had the seam knurled across the quarter and half. Apparently those perforations allowed air in, those two coins woulda rated a RB designation for a cent, brown "toned" to the hilt. Hopefully they will replace since it has been sent back!

I don't know how wide spread the practice might be, but the old yellow envelope proof sets can be steam opened and reclosed.

Finding a DMC Franklin in 67-69 makes for a huge profit.

I have to ask a couple questions.

Did you buy the proof set for your collection?

Did you buy the proof set to sell at a later date?

Did you buy the proof set because you like this particular year/type/set?
