Okay, so I realize that there is no listing for a 1986 D DDO on Wexlers doubleddie.com page. But when I began looking at this coin under the microscope, I couldn't help but began to wonder. There is some strong doubling and notching of the letters in LIBERTY and IGWT, and it doesn't look like strike or Machine Doubling to me. Please take a look at the pics, and let me know what you think. Also, as shown in the photos, there are some interesting semi-doubled objects on the reverse of the coin. Not sure what would have caused that effect. Any ideas?

Images are too close and too far. But I think I see what you are looking at. It looks like MD on the devices LIBERTY. Note how the devices are not enlarged, but the lines are incuse? That is what I think I see. On the MOTTO, the images are too large. You should have the images sized like "IN GOD' (One image) 'WE TRUST' (one image) Too close, we can see what is there. But they should look like this if they are doubled dies:

I agree, pictures are just too close to tell. The back is a descent picture but not seeing any doubling on the reverse.

Thank you both for your replies and advice on sizing my pics. I am including some new pics that I think show the doubling that I am talking about more clearly. I especially noticed the doubling on the lower part of the L and upper and lower parts of the R in LIBERTY. It is also strong on the G and O in GOD, the right side of the W in WE, and the you in TRUST. It doesn't look like Die Deterioration Doubling to me. The doubled image is too precise, and is not always facing the rim side of the letters. Also, while the doubling is not high relief, it does seem to be more rounded than strike or Machine Doubling, which usually appears very flat, and the edge where it connects to the rest of the doubled object typically has a fairly sharp edge. It could still be something other than a true doubled die, but I am not sure what.

The weird effect that I was talking about on the reverse was just shown in one pic in my first post. The bottom side of several of the stars, and the bottom side of some of the dots in the rays above the eagle's head have what seems to be Die Deterioration Doubling, but it does not conform as precisely to the shape of the object as I have come to expect. No big deal really, just seemed a little bit odd to me is all.

Click on the tag above only on a computer. The image is to large for a phone. I checked the two sites and nothing is showing on them for a DDO. Looking at the images of the motto, that is what they look like. Just like your coin. The Liberty to me looks like Machine Doubling. But check out these images on your computer.

JavenBlade - it has been a few years since you posted this topic and I came across a coin like yours. Found your post as I was researching my coin and I am very interested in whether you asked Variety Vista or some other site for a second opinion. Did you take your research any further?
