A 3D model electron micrograph video of the '4' showing views from various angles should be made, so that more people can make up their minds, without actually having to handle the coin.

The die marker information so far, is a worthwhile contribution to authenticity.

Needs to be slabbed eventually, but to do so now prevents further examination.

"A coin that a New England man originally thought was a counterfeit..."

"The owner of the newly authenticated coin did not provide any information about how or when he obtained it".

I wonder why he originally thought it was counterfeit. Did he buy it as a counterfeit? Does he not want publicize that the previous owner is not going to share in the wealth?

Just "thinking out loud".

Independently verifiable provenance IS important for any potentially valuable coin, genuine or not.
