I've recently been going back through pennies that I have saved, looking for some new varieties. I was just wondering, if this 1981 Penny would be considered a doubled die?

Not a doubled die. Severe circulation wear is what I see.

Actually Jarr, your coin is so beat that I'm pretty sure nobody here would be able to give you a definitive answer. Without having it in hand to pin down specific markers (that probably would not still be evident), between the pics and the state of the coin, who knows. If you're in it to find and collect, keep it. If your motivation is a cash return, throw it back.

Doesn't look like DD, it seems a dryer to me.

It appears to be circulation damage. Could be a Grease Filled Die.

When coins have "wide" devices it is an indication of one of two factors. Result of a Grease Filled Die or smashed in circulation. The Grease Fill as shown fills the narrow tip of the device making a shallow, wide appearance. Circulation wears and compresses these devices.

I've got hundreds of Lincoln Memorial pennies of every year that I've separated looking for key dates, over the last six months,or so. I figured I'd look for a new variety,It gives me something to do on my down time. its kind of like treasure hunting.
