I actually had this since I started collecting and put it away but didn't know what it was till I took it out tonight and looked at it again and with that I've learned since then knee immediately it was a Retained Cud. What I didn't notice until looking closer at it is what I thought was just another minor die break was actually a smaller RC that connects to the larger one. I outlined the break because it's hard to see all of it with this cam phone pics. it def must have been early on in the break. They affect the right side of the reverse on the right wheat stalk. Would this have any kind of premium being a double?

The first circled area is a retained Die Cud. The second circled area is a die crack so far. The RDC (retained Die Cud) hasn't really separated yet, but started breaking a bit on the lower loop. What is going on the die is like a split of on a piece of wood. It is still attached, but moving ad being altered a bit. Each strikes movement causes a little bit more of a break away off the die. Eventually, this will completely break away. But being on the reverse, the collar still holds it in place. Looking more like this:

Note that the RDC is still held in place because of the collar? When that RDC falls out of the collar, then a reverse Cud will appear. (but often it takes a while for this to happen) Hope this helps.

Nice find! The first Cud is Retained, but the other one is just a Die Crack still.

Let me see if I understand correctly. The second smaller thing isn't a Retained Cud? Is that because it is just a crack and hasn't separated at all from the rest of the coin?

Correct. When the metal distorts away from the design, then it is a Retained Cud.

Through the last 20 years, I've seen tons of images. But when I see something that will help a new collector see something easier to understand. I have them. I still have some images that subjects have not come yet. But I have them ready to go when they do come up. I have 7,812 on my image host right now, and still adding every day.
