Dies clashed without blank in position leaving an imprint on obverse die. Check the reverse, turn it upside down and you should see a faint imprint of abe's bust inside the memorial. Nice clash marks, not particularly valuable but still collectible.

Oh, the term for the coin is "die clashed cent".

Nice die clash, it even looks to me like Abe's tiny statue from the reverse is visible - tiny divot dead center just above the collar.

Help my knowledge on these - a clash on one side doesn't necessarily mean there's a clash on the other side, because they could swap out one die and leave the other one in production for a while longer, right?

I believe that this is true, although it does seem to me like often times there will be some evidence on both sides.

I bet it probably broke the reverse on a clash that strong.
Rest in Peace

Ditto what Coop just said, beat me to it. For the bays to show up INSIDE the deep portion of the bust, it was/a massive hit. The amount of rotation shows a misalignment in the hammer die housing, may have dropped down too much and twisted.

It was pretty dirty. A slight turn of the wrist in the other direction and I would have tossed it out as PMD.
