Here is a brief history of Turkish money.
I will try to find some sites with pics, or I'll show some pictures.
This is just the historical part of the Turkish Republic. The Ottoman Empire period is completely a different story

Year 1931, Turkish Republic has its first banknotes.
The currency is minted by the British in that time.
Smallest banknote is 1 TL, biggest is 1,000 TL.
Not everyone can see that 1,000 TL it's like a small fortune.
1 Turkish Lira = 0.47 USD

Year 1942, 2. Generation money is minted by the British and the German.
2.nd President Mr. Ismet Inonu is on the currency.
Smallest banknote is 50 Kurus, biggest one is 1,000 Lira.

Year 1947, 3. generation banknotes are circulating.
No more Kurush banknotes. America is added to the list to print Turkish money.
1 Lira is no more, smallest banknote is 2.5 Lira, biggest one is 1,000 Lira.

Year 1952, Ataturk is back on the face of currency.
Turkey can manufacture its own currency.
1 Lira is out of circulation. 1,000 TL is still "the king".

Year 1968, no more banknotes of 2.5 lira.
The design has changed.
Kingdom of 1,000 TL banknote is still on, but everyone can have it.

Year 1980. 4. Generation currency is in circulation.
50 years' reign of 1000 TL banknote is over.
Now there's 5000 TL.

Year 1982, 5. Generation currency is in circulation.
We have 10,000 TL and 10 TL is history.

Year 1988, 20,000 TL is circulating,

Year 1992, Almost every year a new banknote.
250,000 TL is on the market. After 60 years, the purple thousand is over.

5,000 and 10,000 Lira notes are out of currency.

Year 1997, 1,000 was the king for 60 Years but 1,000,000 could last for only 2 Years
20,000 Lira is out too.

Year 2001, sad but true; 20,000,000 is circulating. 100,000 is off the market.

Year 2005, six zeroes are off the tail. We now call the TL the "new" TL; YTL.
All the currency is re-minted. We now have 50 and 100 YTL, and Kurus is back.
