So let me start off by saying that I only sell maybe 10-15 items a year on ebay. I recently sold a coin on ebay for $165. I promptly mailed the coin out the very next day to the address provided by PayPal. Tracking came with it and the tracking shows that the item has been "Delivered In/At Mailbox".

The coin was delivered 4 days ago and I received the following message today:

"I spoke with the post office today and they provided me with a print out showing that the package was delivered to 2332 Wagner instead of 2332 Waudman. I would like a refund please"

I mailed the coin to the 2332 Waudman. This was the address provided to me. I can't help USPS put the coin in the wrong mailbox. I feel like I did all that I could possibly do.

Where do you think I will stand with ebay on this? This is the first time anything like this has happened to me.

Thanks
Rest in Peace

if the package shows delivery, you should be clear.

ebay may give a refund via their own buyers protection.

I agree, as long as you have your original USPS receipt.

It's ebay's problem as you did everything you were supposed to do.

If ebay tries to make you eat it then appeal their decision. If push comes to shove then report them to the BBB in San Jose.

I disagree on wasting time with the BBB. They do nothing other than collect yearly fees from merchants.

Not one in 10,000 customers check BBB before they buy.

It's about like threatening someone with a lawyer even though you know no lawyers.

Contact ebay it be the first thing I would do, and the post office should retrieve the package back from the wrong address, you aren't liable for post office mistake. Paypal will refund the buyer if buyer doesn't receive package.

Do not issue a refund. Let the buyer know the item shows as delivered to their address provided by eBay/Paypal.

The buyer can plead their case to ebay. You owe them nothing more so don't sweat it just be polite.

Agreed don't issue a refund. Tell them you recommend they report the issue to their Postal Inspectors and their postmasters. DOn't even mention a refund or anything else in the messages.

This is one of the very few instances where ebay's policies align with the seller. So long as the tracking information shows it was delivered to the buyers address, your in the clear.

You did everything right. Report the issue to the P.O. and let them, ebay and PayPal sort it out. Be polite and keep the buyer informed with the steps you're taking.

You are not at fault, the USPS is at fault. Be firm, yet nice, and inform the buyer he needs to contact his Postmaster for reclamation of his goods and delivery to him, not someone else. Let ebay know the same thing, when he tries to escalate it and avoid dealing with the problem by just getting his money back from you.

Do not issue a refund, in full or part, under any circumstances.

Thanks everyone for the replies. This makes me feel better. My exact response was " I mailed the item to the address PayPal provided. The tracking clearly states the package was delivered. This seems to be a USPS problem."

I have not heard anything from anyone sense I sent this. I will keep you informed if this gets escalated further.

UPDATE:

Here is the buyer's response:

"Hello Thank you for the responds. You sold me the coin, I didn't receive the coin. USPS made a mistake and delivered to the wrong address. I think you need to contact them it's your responsible to see what they are going to do about your problem."

That was quoted. I like to think my grammar is better than that. I replied back and simply stated that with all do respect I disagree and we will have to let ebay handle this from here.

I will keep you updated.
