I just experienced a first for me in trolling through e-bay for some possible good deals.
Today I noticed that a Morgan dollar, an 1891-cc,in gem bu condition was up with only an hour to go and was thus far at $107 which I thought was pretty low. I know the cost rises dramatically in the last few seconds but I decided to go take a look at the feed back of the seller. Low and behold in the past month he had received only one negative...and it was on a gem bu 1891-cc Morgan which is close to $700-800 in value. The negative feed back was because the seller didn't honor the win which was about $217. It was a no reserve auction. The buyer had an excellent feedback about 99.8%. Can a seller on just cancel a sale like that?

Yes, as long as he doesn't mind Negs. If he does it enough, I suppose ebay could NARU him, but it's unlikely.

File a non-performing seller report, the seller equivalent of a non-paying bidder.

I've bid on a couple auctions where the coin wasn't going to close for what I'd guess the eBayer wanted, so the auction was summarily cancelled. These sellers don't consider that sniping can raise the bids significantly in the final moments.

Legally it is a binding contract once the auction ends so technically the seller has to go through with the deal. However, we all know that some cheap sellers on there who don't use a reserve will not follow through if they dont get the price they want. They do this knowing that 99.99% of the population is not going to pursue any legal action to force the completed sale. So, hit him with a negative, inform us of his seller id, and we can all stear clear of him.
