Queen Lilavati nof Polonnaruwa was a Sri Lankan queen the second to rule on her own as queen. She ruled three different times, 1197-1200, 1209-1210, and 1211-1212. This coin is well struck with a clear legend in Brahmi and very nice bron patina. Sri Lanka Queen Lilavati AE unit Legend: SRIN RAJA LILAVATI in Brahmi 20mm x 4.2g x 6h Mitchiner NIS 837 Sorry images are in reverse order. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilav..._Polonnaruwa

@ron, nice pick-up--I really like the remaining detail on this Octopus Man. Any thoughts on why she stopped ruling twice? Was it because she had children that sequentially rose to take the throne and she stepped back?

Hi Ron I don't know if you already knew this but the three reigns of the queen can be easily identified as the SRI RA symbols are really different... Yours is from her first reign with the lettering tending to be thicker and better struck. The subsequent reigns were lighter in weight and less detailed. Paul Also maybe you know or someone else, is this Brahmin script or sinhalese Nagari?

Hi Ron, glad it helps.... Quote: Do you know of a reference book on this type? Kandy Kings of Ceylon 1055-1295 AD Catalog and variety guide to the "standing man" coinage of the eleven post-Chola Kings of Ceylon. 44p, 5.5x8.5", sc, 1968, OP, Photocopy: (A revised version including a history of Ceylonese coinage was published in 1980 but apparently never marketed) Author Frank Lapa Supposedly a good reference but I can't seem to find it? If you do please let me know... I'm trying to put together a visual reference at the moment similar to the Kashmir series for ease of attribution but it probably won't be ready until the end of the year.. Paul
