I was looking through some of my grandfathers coins and came across this 64-D kennedy with doubling on "WE TRUST". It's almost identical the the 2009 Red Book pic of a 1974-D DDO (page 202), but without any doubling on the 4 in the date. Haven't been able to find any mention of this in any publications. Anyone else seen/heard of this? Sorry the pics aren't the best.

Hi, It is definitely a DDO. We may be able to further identify it with a close up of WE TRUST. There are TDO and QDO die varieties as well on '64 D Kennedys as well. Have Fun, Bill

The TDO has a RPM North on the mint mark on the reverse. That might help.

I've never considered the die state, but from what I can tell it looks like a late MDS. The die flow lines are appearing, but the edges of the devices are still in tact. But I bought the coin at a coin show just for my collection of BU coins. After I got it home then realized it was a variety. I checked the next show and the price had raised 5 times as much as he had figured out what it was by then.

The local show is a small one. It meets once a month. After going there a few years, the sellers have got wind of me and look very closely at what I buy. So I've not gone for a few years now, due to changes in work schedules and cutting back on my coin budget a little. I've got to get back to searching what I already have and selling extras of what I've found and what I don't collect no longer. But I figure that is what retirement time is for.

I was going to wait and let the professionals make the first pronouncement but I'm going to step up and say you have a Doubled Die.....I just don't see a third or fourth in those pictures. It's an exciting find and I'm proud for you
